Neighbors helping Neighbors - Service together
The Knights of Columbus Council (14162) performs service activities within the parish and the community. In conjunction with other councils we participate in several broader activities as well. The council while serving the Parish is not funded by the Parish; therefore, the scope of service is not limited. Services we provide include:
The Annual Santa Breakfast – This event is not only for our parish but is also open to the public, where kids can come and have pictures taken with the “Big Guy” himself. We also have a raffle which goes along with both sittings of the breakfast.
The Annual Parish Picnic – This event is held during the summer, parishioners are asked to bring a dish, and the Knights provide hot dogs, hamburgers, soda pop, and of course do all of the barbequing and clean up.
Semi Annual Parish Clean ups – Twice a year the Knights, prune trees, pressure wash and sweep the parking lot, weed around the church, cut back any over growth or suspect limbs, repair holes in the parking lot, and general landscaping.
The Annual Parish Easter Egg Hunt - This event of course is for the kids, it is well attended and open to any child in the parish. Plastic eggs litter the field and are full of candy this event is loved by not just the kids but those who watch and put it on.
Coffee Hour/ Social Hour – Every first and third Sunday the Knights sponsor social/coffee hour after both masses. Where people can come and have a cup of coffee, tea, juice, or hot chocolate with a donut or bagel, and just catch up with friends and meet other parishioners.
The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship is sponsored annually, with winners progressing through local, district, and state competitions. International champions are announced by the K of C international headquarters based on scores from the state level competitions. All boys and girls 10 to 14 years old are eligible to participate and will compete in their respective age divisions.
The Annual Lenten Fish Fry – This event is held on the first Friday of Lent. Knights provide Beer Battered Cod and all the sides cooked in our Parish Hall kitchen. The event is held on the Friday evening at 5 PM before the 7 PM Stations of the Cross and Mass.
Movie night - We have started a new program of youth outreach where we show family movies at the Church and provide free popcorn and water.
Within the council we have a broad spectrum of talent and much is accomplished. We provide funding, meager though it may be, in support of those studying for the Priesthood. We also provide help in an annual drive for the Fife/Milton Food Bank
The Knights also provide a very real need in today’s world of providing a forum for fraternal, paternal and spiritual bonding and educational possibilities for men who wish to learn how to be better fathers, husbands, friends and citizens. While the organization is fraternal, several of the meetings a year are held informally with spouses in a potluck dinner setting.
